Family Care, Two Generations

Chiropractic takes a unique and holistic approach to modern medicine. Ackers Chiropractic is a family-owned team combining chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, and traditional Chinese medicine under one roof.

Our History

Ackers Chiropractic was founded in 2006 by siblings Dr Shawn Ackers and Dr Carmel Ackers, both trained in the USA and registered with the Chiropractic Board of Australia through Ahpra. What began as a single chiropractic clinic grew to meet a clear need for chiropractic care alongside acupuncture, massage, and traditional Chinese medicine in one place. Today the practice spans two clinic locations, Taylors Lakes and Gladstone Park, supported by a multi-practitioner team and on-site HICAPS claiming. The clinics remain family-owned, with the same founding commitment to hands-on, personal care.

Why We Started Ackers Chiropractic

Dr. Shawn Ackers and Dr. Carmel Ackers grew up watching their own family navigate fragmented healthcare: a chiropractor in one suburb, an acupuncturist in another, no one talking to each other. After training in the USA and returning to Melbourne, they set out to build something different: a single practice where chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, and Traditional Chinese Medicine could work together for the same patient. They opened their first clinic in Taylors Lakes in 2006, determined to treat neighbours the way they'd want their own family treated: thoroughly, patiently, and without rushing anyone out the door. Nearly two decades on, that same brother-and-sister partnership still leads the team across both clinic locations.

Meet Our Lead Practitioners

Dr. Shawn Ackers, co-founder and chiropractor trained in the United States and registered with the Chiropractic Board of Australia through Ahpra, has practised chiropractic care in Melbourne since 2006, drawing on techniques including Gonstead, Diversified, and Cox Flexion Distraction.

Dr Carmel Ackers, co-founder and chiropractor, also USA-trained and AHPRA-registered, has spent nearly two decades treating patients across both clinic locations, with particular focus on structural alignment and joint mobility care.

They are supported by a multi-practitioner team including Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners Anita Ackers and Mystique, both qualified and registered TCM practitioners bringing acupuncture, cupping, and Chinese herbal medicine expertise to the wider care team.

Proactive, Not Reactive

We look for the underlying cause of pain and imbalance early, rather than waiting for a crisis, so your care plan addresses what's really going on.
